So, I tried editing the eclipse.ini file according the wiki on eclipse org by inserting the following: When I ran eclipse, I still got the same error ("Version 1.6.0_65 of the JVM is not suitable for this product. I installed it with no apparent problems.

So, I downloaded Java for Mac OS X Recommended Version 8 Update 45 from. When I run eclipse, I now get at window entitled "Incompatible JVM" which states:"Version 1.6.0_65 of the JVM is not suitable for this product. I installed this, with no apparent problems.

I have installed eclipse, specifically "Eclipse IDE for Java Developers" for Mac OS X (Cocoa) 64-bit, i.e., eclipse-java-mars-R-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar (I'm running Yosemite, i.e. It tells me to use legacy Java, then (when given legacy Java), it tells me my Java is too old. Summary: I have installed Eclipse, but can't get it to run.
